10-12yrs Tennis Nationals 2015

2/11/2015
Queensland has pulled off the biggest upset in 32 years of Bruce Cup tennis history.  Queensland won the Bruce Cup going through the championships undefeated in Hobart in late October.  In the final we played Victoria on the Saturday, who were undefeated as we were.

Victoria had 6 of Australia’s top 8 boys and had not lost a set all week.  They were much stronger on paper even in the girls than the Qld Team. After doubles Queensland was down 4 – 2 and after singles we were 10 – 8 up against Victoria. We won 2 boys singles and 6 girls singles. Three of the girls won in tie breakers (3rd set) and one of the boys beat Australia no. 1 boy in a tie breaker! We went onto win 4 more rubbers in the mixed competition which meant over all we won 14 – 10!!

It was all extremely emotional and unexpected and really showed what team spirit is all about. Having the support of both QSS coaches and manages as well as a Tennis Queensland presence was absolutely fantastic for the QLD players. This partnership allowed for excellent one to one coaching each day and consequently real positive and constructive personal growth for each athlete. The support and encouragement the players received really impacted on their overall performance, so thank you to all involved.

A huge congratulations goes to all 10-12yrs QSS Tennis players- an outstanding effort and performance, and an experience not to be forgotten!
